Amalgam Dental Fillings
Amalgam (silver) fillings are made of a combination of several metals.  They are frequently recommended to repair teeth that have been cracked, broken, decayed, or worn, and are usually applied to the teeth in the back of the mouth.  While amalgam fillings are very durable, they are not permanent, and you may need to replace them in the future.

Composite Dental Fillings
Composite (tooth-colored) dental fillings are used to improve the function as well as the appearance of your teeth.  Dentists often recommend fillings for teeth that are visible when you smile, and that are chipped, cracked, broken, decayed, worn, or have large gaps between them.  Composite fillings are very durable, and you can be certain that you will enjoy a beautiful, natural-looking smile for many years.  Like amalgam fillings, they are not permanent, and may need to be replaced in the future.

Both amalgam and composite fillings can be placed in just one appointment.  Our dentists will remove the decay on your tooth and clean it, and will place the filling into the area.  Your dental filling will be shaped, placed, and polished.  You will experience sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures shortly after your fillings are placed, but this sensitivity will be reduced as your tooth acclimates to the filling.

Please follow all the post-procedure care instructions our dentists provide, and practice good oral hygiene at home.  This will increase the life and functionality of your filling.
