AZ Dental offers pocket irrigation to clean the bacteria and plaque from your teeth. This periodontal treatment helps to keep your mouth free of disease-causing bacteria, and can be performed as part of a professional cleaning or as part of your home care routine. We invite you to call us at 408-437-1111 for more information about pocket irrigation in San Jose, California, and schedule your appointment with Dr. Lynna Bui.
Pocket irrigation is a highly versatile treatment. Also known as oral irrigation, it is generally performed in combination with other treatments, including dental cleanings and pocket reduction surgery. If you perform pocket irrigation as part of your at home oral hygiene routine, we recommend that you use a water jet or a water pick. Pocket irrigation does not replace professional dental cleanings.
Benefits of pocket irrigation include:
- Interdental cleaning – this treatment clears out plaque, food particles, and other debris from between the teeth and out of the gum pockets, helping your gums remain healthy.
- Halitosis prevention – water jets flush out food particles and clean above and below the gum line, preventing the buildup of bacteria and other factors that cause bad breath.
- Subgingival cleaning – this treatment reaches below the gum line without damaging the tissue to flush out bacteria, toxins, and particles of debris.
- Antimicrobial application – antimicrobial substances can be combined with water or used as a stand-alone treatment to help eliminate and prevent some strains of oral bacteria.
