Gum recession can be devastating to your oral health, as it removes the supporting structures of your teeth, causing them to become loose and increasing the chance that they will need to be removed.  Dr. Lynna Bui provides treatments for gum recession in San Jose, California, to help prevent gum recession from worsening and help you regain a healthy smile.  To learn more about gum recession and schedule a consultation with our periodontist, please contact AZ Dental at 408-437-1111.

Gum recession occurs slowly, and without any obvious symptoms.  As such, it can be very difficult to self-diagnose.  Some of the signs of gum disease include:

  • Exposed tooth roots
  • Increasingly sensitive teeth
  • Teeth that appear too long
  • Bad breath (halitosis)
  • Inflammation and bleeding of the gums

Gum recession may result from any number of factors, separately or in combination, including:

  • Periodontal disease
  • Bruxism
  • Overaggressive brushing
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Tobacco use

When you meet with our periodontist, we will determine the cause of your gum recession, and recommend one or more treatments to halt and correct the problem.  These treatments may be as simple as using a softer-bristled toothbrush and gentle brushing technique (if recession is caused by overaggressive brushing), improving your home care routine (if caused by poor oral hygiene), night guards, or periodontal treatments.  In more extreme cases, we may recommend gum grafting or another form of oral surgery.

We invite you to contact our office for more information about gum recession and the treatments we offer to correct it.
