TMJ disorders can be debilitating, and can greatly interfere with your day-to-day lifestyle.  Symptoms of this oral dysfunction may worsen with time, or during periods of prolonged or unexpected stress.  TMJ disorders are characterized by the following symptoms:

  • Severe headaches and/or migraines
  • Jaw pain
  • Grinding teeth
  • Intermittent ringing in the ears
  • Neck and back pain
  • Dizziness
  • Bad bites (malocclusion)

A TMJ disorder can be caused by one or several factors in combination.  Malocclusion is the most common cause of TMJ disorders, followed by traumatic injury.  Our experienced dentists offer a number of TMJ treatments, including oral surgery, and will work with you to determine if you have a TMJ disorder, and the best treatment to relief your pain and discomfort and treat the problem.  Some of the treatments we may recommend include:

  • Custom night guards
  • A bite relationship analysis
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Muscle relaxants
  • Realignment, or changing the shape of the teeth to get rid of malocclusion
