Root canal therapy is used to remove infected and inflamed tissue from the inner portions of your tooth, preventing the need for extraction and restoring the health and function of the tooth. We invite you to call AZ Dental at 408-437-1111 to schedule your consultation with Dr. Anastasios Photopoulos and learn more about root canal therapy in San Jose, California.

Root canal therapy is often the preferred treatment when teeth are infected, as it helps you maintain your original teeth. This treatment typically requires 1-3 visits to complete, depending on the severity of the infection and the extent of work needed.

Prior to your treatment, our endodontist will take a complete set of X-rays in order to plan your treatment. We will begin by administering a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. A dental dam or similar device will be placed to keep your tooth free from saliva and other debris during the treatment. An opening will be created in the surface of your tooth, and our endodontist will remove the pulp.

After your dental pulp has been removed, your tooth will be shaped thoroughly cleaned. We will pack gutta-percha filling material into the tooth to seal out further infection, and cement will be applied to completely seal the root canals. Finally, we will place a temporary filling or crown to restore the function of your tooth pending completion and placement of your permanent restoration.

Our endodontist will provide you with post-operative instructions and any medical prescriptions which you may need.
