Take-home whitening trays are one of the most popular method of teeth whitening available, as they are both non-invasive and extremely convenient.  They are also highly effective, and have been known to dramatically brighten your teeth and improve your smile.

Teeth may become dull, stained, or discolored due to one or more of the following factors:

  • Fluorosis
  • Normal wear of the outer tooth enamel
  • Medications
  • Smoking and tobacco use
  • Consumption of certain foods and beverages (coffee, tea, wine, etc.)

When you receive a take-home teeth whitening treatment at our practice, you can expect to have two appointments with our dentists.  During the first appointment, we will take impressions of your teeth to create your whitening trays.  When you return for your second appointment, our dentists will check the fit of your trays and make any adjustments you may need.  We will provide you with instructions on how to care for and use your trays.

When whitening your teeth, apply a special whitening solution to the inside of your trays.  Wear these trays either twice a day for 30 minutes each time, or wear them overnight for several weeks.  You will most likely experience tooth sensitivity during this time.  The sensitivity will diminish and eventually go away after you stop bleaching your teeth.

When considering a teeth whitening treatment, remember that whitening only works on your natural tooth enamel.  You may want to consider replacing old restorations, such as fillings and crowns, after you have completed your bleaching treatment so that they match the color of your newly-whitening smile.  Also remember that teeth whitening treatments are not permanent.  You will need to touch-up your smile periodically to ensure that it remains bright.
